ASLA recently announced the winners of the 2012 Professional Awards and Student Awards. The awards honor the top public places, residential designs, campuses, parks and urban planning projects from across the U.S. and around the world. Several Northern California Chapter members were recognized including:

General Design Honor Awards to Powell Street Promenade, San Francisco by Hood Design, and the National 9/11 Memorial, New York by PWP Landscape Architecture.

Residential Design Award of Excellence to Drs. Julian and Raye Richardson Apartments, San Francisco by Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture, and a Honor Award to Urban Spring, San Francisco by Bionic.

Analysis & Planning Honor Award to Nanhu: Farm Town in the Big Bity, Jiaxing, China by SWA Group, and Wusong Riverfront: Landscape Infrastructure Pilot Project, Huaqiao, Kunshan City, Jingsu Province, China by  SWA Group.

Communications Honor Awards to “Asphalt to Ecosystems: Design Ideas for Schoolyard Transformation” by Sharon Gamson Danks, Bay Tree Design, Inc., Berkeley, with publisher: New Village Press; “Landscape Infrastructure: Case Studies by SWA” by SWA Group with publisher: Birkhauser Architecture; and Landscape Urbanism website and journal edited by Sarah Peck of Sausalito, CA.

Local members also served on this year’s jury: Tom Leader on the professional awards jury and Linda Jewell on the student jury.
