ASLA-NCC is saddened to report that the bay area landscape architecture community lost two esteemed professionals in June.

Michael Painter, FASLA (1935-2018), earned his BSLA from UC Berkeley in 1956. Over the course of his four-decades-long career, he was recognized with numerous awards and honors, and was the key visionary behind the new Presidio Parkway project.

Ron Herman received a BLA from UC Berkeley 1964, and was a scholar of Japanese culture and an authority on Japanese gardens. The son of a SoCal nurseryman, Ron was known for his exquisite large-scale residential gardens and private estates. They will be missed by all.
