The (old) Bay Bridge From Above

The (old) Bay Bridge From Above

Check It Out

Photographer Peter Stackpole’s early career shots of the building of the Bay Bridge will be on display this Saturday at the Oakland Museum. His black and white aerial photos of the Bay Bridge construction process, built from 1933-36, are works of art as well as stunning historical documentation. This will be the first time that all 20 of his photos will be displayed together in one space. Stackpole went on to become one of the first staff photographers for Life magazine. Although this is not technically speaking landscape architecture, it is worth a visit if you find yourself in Oakland between July 20, 2013 and January 26, 2014.
